Horse Show Checklist

Paperwork:
Map to show grounds
Show information, including premium, class lists, jump courses, etc.
Rulebook
Membership cards (if needed)
Horse registration (if required)
Health certificate, coggins, etc. (if required-out of state shows only)
Emergency telephone numbers, including vet
Test booklet (dressage riders only)
Checkbook/wallet/Money/I.D.
 
Grooming:
Fly spray
Maine Thinner/ pulling comb
Shampoo & Conditioner 
Sweat scraper
Maine & Tail detangler (ex: cowboy magic)
Brushes (soft and hard), curries
Hoof pick
Coat polish (show sheen, etc.)
Whitening product (for horses w/ white markings)
Sponges and rags (for your boots, tack, horse, etc.)
Hoof dressing / polish (Clear polish and enhancer spray)
Grooming tote
Leather cleaner, conditioner & oil
Cordless clippers (for missed hairs)
Hair Spray (to keep braids in place)
Rubber Bands & yarn (for braiding)
Scissors
Maine and Tail Brush
Baby oil (to enhance nose, eyes, ears etc.)
 
Show Apparel (hunters):
Jodhpurs w/ elastic straps to hold pants down
      Color must be in khaki (greenish tan) or tan  (ages 12 and under)
Breeches- Color must be in khaki (greenish tan) or tan (ages 12 and over)
Tall leather field boots- no rubber (ages 12 and over)
Paddock boots (ages 12 and under)
Garter straps (ages 12 and under)
Boot pulls and jack
Tall boot socks (ages 12 and over)
Boot polish
Spurs (if needed)
Hunter coat/ jacket- most all colors are okay
      recommend Blue, Beige, or Brown
      Black doesn't stand out as much (too common- not recommended)
Show shirts/ Ratcatchers with collars (x2)
      (long sleeved & short sleeved- if jackets are optional on a hot day you
      still need a long sleeved shirt)
Helmet (ASTM approved helmet; recommended brands: IRH, GPA,
      Charles Owen. Traditional black velvet okay; highly recommend the newer
      look of brushed black or charcoal with a center stripe. NO shiny plastic helmets.
Hair net with bow or regular hair net
Bobby pins
Ribbon for hair (ages 12 and under)
Hair Spray
Hair ties (black or brown)
Stock pin (if no monogrammed collar)
Collar (w/ or w/out monogramm)
Gloves (Black leather)
Belt (Black or Brown)
 
 
For Travel:
Full tank of gas
Truck and trailer registration
Head bumper
Shipping boots or wraps
Tail bandage
Jack for trailer
Spare tire
Manure fork
Emergency phone numbers in case of breakdown
First-aid kit
Water buckets
 
For You:
Sun block
Sunglasses
Hat or cap
Comfortable clothes/shoes for after competition

A Cover-Up (so you don't get your show clothes dirty)
 
For Your Horse:
Bridle (brown/ tan, leather)
Bits (snaffle and kimberwicke)
Saddle (brown/ tan, leather, close contact or all purpose)
Saddle pad (white contour pad okay; recommended: half pad/ wither relief)
Girth (brown/ tan, leather)
Leg-wear: (For Jumpers-Jumping Boots and Bell Boots;
      For Flat Riders-Polo wraps and Bell Boots)
Martingales (depending on your horse; standing, running or
      German martingale)
Neck stretcher
Spare leathers (in case yours break)
Breast plate w/ standing martingale attachment (recommended)
Crop (Black)
Lunge line and lunge whip
Stud chain (optional)
Halter and lead rope- plus a spare
Horse blanket and cooler (optional)
Bucket- for water
Hay and supplements (enough for your stay at the show grounds)
Hay net
Treats (carrots, horse cookies, etc.)
